Update: Building Block Definition API now available (preview)
We're excited to share that the meshObject API for Building Block Definition management is now available in meshStack. With v2026.6.0 we have completed shipping the majority of functionality that we have planned so far for this API, but we are of course looking into further polishing it over the next weeks and based on your feedback. You can programmatically create, update, and release building block definitions via API and Terraform.
- API endpoints: meshBuildingBlockDefinition and meshBuildingBlockDefinitionVersion
- Terraform resource: meshstack_building_block_definition (released Feb 16, 2026) which manages versioning and releasing
- All implementation types supported: Terraform/OpenTofu, Manual, GitHub Actions, GitLab Pipelines and Azure DevOps Pipelines
- Support for ephemeral API keys: We have included support for configuring ephemeral API key inputs for your building blocks also via the API
- All input types supported: We have included support for all input types, including sensitive/secret inputs
Ongoing work
- API stabilization: Endpoints remain in preview with potential future changes. One area we're particularly looking for further feedback on is a more intuitive representation of allowed input configurations.
- Terraform provider stabilization: The Terraform provider serves as the reference implementation for the API. Please file any issues you encounter with the terraform provider as an GitHub issue.
- Documentation improvements: Expanding examples and shipping reference use cases on meshStack hub

Fabian: Hi Fabian, those dark times are soon to be gone. We will release the first version very shortly (hopefully already next Wednesday)
